Efficiency Will Help Meet EPA's Carbon
Rules

As a region, the Northwest has a decided advantage
in meeting the Environmental Protection Agency’s
proposed carbon emission rules for power plants:
energy efficiency and our success in achieving it.
In June, the Environmental Protection Agency
announced a proposed rule to reduce carbon
emissions from U.S. power plants by 30 percent
from 2005 levels by 2030.

Anticipates Meeting Energy Efficiency
Targets
Richard Génecé, vice president of energy
efficiency at the Bonneville Power
Administration, briefed the Council in August on
the agency's accomplished and projected energy
savings. Génecé said the agency is on track to
meet the targets set in the Council’s Sixth
Power Plan.
“That is cause for celebration and a good-news
story,” he said.

Northwest Hydroelectric Association to Conduct
Hydropower Scoping Study
The Council has contracted the Northwest
Hydroelectric Association to conduct a scoping
study on the region's hydropower potential. The
study is scheduled to be completed by the end of
September.
