Comment from Albert, Kathy
It is very necessary that the Council include stronger efficiency standards that account
specifically for the cost of carbon and puts the Nonhwest back on a path away from coal power.
Coal creates 40 per cent or more of the air pollution in our state. It is a very outdated means of
energy. We need to reduce and eliminate our use of coal rather than continue with it as it is. I
urge you to adopt a final regional power plan that includes stronger efficiency standards and
accounts specifically for the cost of carbon and puts us on an energy path away from coal power.
What you have right now I understand maintains what is happening right now, it does not
address coal at all and we really need to do that if we want to phase out our carbon dioxide
pollution and avoid future federal carbon charges.
