Comment from Coal Free Northwest
We applaud the Northwest Power & Conservation Council for creating an energy roadmap that shows how we can meet our energy needs over the next 20 years with no increase in greenhouse gas emissions. But we can and must do better.
The NWPCC's 6th Plan should address three important elements:
1) Coal - A timeline for phasing out coal in the Northwest by 2020 - the NWPCC's own research show this is both achievable and affordable
2) Cargbon - The plan should account for the future cost of global-warming-causing carbon pollution and a roadmap for reducing it.
3) Conservation - The 6th Plan shows that we can meet 85% of our future energy needs with efficiency alone. We must keep those targets high.
