Please cleanup our existing coal power plants, such as the one currently operating in Boardman, OR. Soot from this plant clogs the airways in Portland, leaving soot and ash on cars and patios as far south as Lake Oswego. This is a significant health hazard, and is thoroughly preventable with existing technologies. Europe has operated cleaner coal plants for decades. Why is it too hard or too expensive for the US to do the same?
I appreciate the effort to convert US power sources to clean energy technologies, but when nuclear power is considered "clean", I think it's time to fix our existing coal power plants and buy some time to find reasonable ways to deal with nuclear waste before we commit to expanding that problem-laden technology.
